Police Officer

Avoid Speeding Traps

I admit I sometimes have a lead foot while driving…well, technically I kinda do but that’s a whole different post. ;) Fortunately despite my occassional need for speed, I’ve only received one speeding ticket – whew! However, that one ticket was because of a speed trap set  by a cleverly hidden police officer on an overpass with his radar gun aimed at innocent drivers below. I admit I didn’t see it coming when I was flagged down by a different cop just yards past the overpass. Apparently the long line of busted cars behind me didn’t see the first cop either. :(

So here’s how my tragedy can help you save money by avoiding your next speeding ticket. Well, first the obvious answer is don’t speed…lol But if you find yourself travelling faster than you’d like more often than not, there’s a cool free mobile app called Trapster that lets you know in advance where commom police traps and hazards are in your area. Currently it’s available for most smartphones (including, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) and you can even download the app to your Garmin or TomTom GPS. Depending on the location you may also receive information about real time traffic updates, red light cameras, and accidents. Sounds like I’ll be downloading this app to both my phone and GPS so I can avoid the po-po and another costly ticket!
